18 California Counties Launch Medi-Cal Whole Person Care Pilot Programs
On January 1, 2017, 18 California counties launched Medi-Cal Whole Person Care (WPC) pilot projects to provide comprehensive, coordinated physical and behavioral health and social services to beneficiaries with higher than average use of health care resources, with a total funding amount of about $478 million. The county pilots target beneficiaries who are high-risk and/or high utilizers, including those released from institutions or incarceration, who have mental illness and/or a substance use disorder, and/or are currently homeless or at risk of homelessness.
