National Rate of Opioid-Related Inpatient Stays Increased 79% Since 2008
Between 2008 and 2016, the national rate of opioid-related inpatient stays increased almost 79.2%. This is an increase from 165.7 stays per 100,000 people in 2008 to 296.9 stays per 100,000 people in 2016. Between 2008 and 2016, the national rate of opioid-related emergency department visits increased nearly 158.4%. This is an increase from 94.1 visits per 100,000 people in 2008 to 243.5 visits per 100,000 people in 2016.
