2.3 Million People Would Gain Health Coverage If The Last 10 States Expanded Medicaid Eligibility
Approximately 2.3 million people would gain health coverage if the last 10 states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, and Wyoming) expanded Medicaid eligibility under the Affordable Care Act to individuals with incomes up to 138% of the federal poverty level. This would drop the uninsurance rate in these states by 25%. In total an additional 2.3 million people will switch from the Marketplaces to Medicaid coverage through such expansion, which will have lower cost sharing without deductibles.
Demographically, non-Hispanic Black adults would see the largest reduction (43.2%) in the uninsured rate . . .
