2% Of U.S. Adults Under Supervision Of Correctional Systems In 2022
The rate of persons under supervision of adult correctional systems was 2,060 per 100,000 adult U.S. residents at year-end 2022, representing about 2% of all adults, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). The 2022 data represents the fifteenth year of decline since the high of 3,210 per 100,000 under supervision in 2007. An estimated 5,407,300 persons were under the supervision of adult correctional systems in the United States at year-end 2022, and 3,668,800 of those were under community supervision.
