20% Of U.S Adults Have Obesity In 2023
During 2023, 20% of adults in the United States were living with obesity. In 23 states, more than 35% of adults were living with obesity. In three of those states — Arkansas, Mississippi, and West Virginia — more than 40% of adults had obesity. In 2013, no state had adult obesity prevalence of 35% or higher.
Regionally, the prevalence of obesity was highest in the Midwest, affecting 36% of adults, and second highest in the South, affecting 34.7% of adults. In the Western states, 29.1% of adults were affected. In the Northeast, 28.6% of adults were affected . . .
