Non-Profit Hospital Tax Exemptions Totaled $24.6 Billion In 2011

In 2011, the aggregate value of federal, state, and local tax exemptions for non-profit hospitals totaled $24.6 billion, up from $12.6 billion in 2002. Without the exemptions, in 2011 non-profit hospitals would have paid $6.3 billion for federal taxes; $1.2 billion for state taxes on corporate income; $6.1 billion for state and local sales taxes on purchases of equipment and supplies; and $4.3 billion for local property taxes.
