In 2012, about 5.4% of Maryland residents eligible for full Medicare and Medicaid benefits had three or more hospital stays during the year. During the year, the high utilizers with three or more hospital stays represented 4,798 of the 88,150 full benefit dual eligibles in Maryland that year, and the high utilizers represented about 23% of the total 20,800 Maryland duals who were hospitalized during the year.
