24% Of Adults Provided Ongoing Unpaid Care For Someone With A Complex Medical Condition Or Disability In The Past Year
Approximately 24% of U.S. adults—or 63 million Americans—provided ongoing unpaid care for an adult or child with a complex medical condition or disability in 2024, according to a survey report by AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving. The number of unpaid or family caregivers in the United States increased by 20 million between 2015 and 2025, from 43.5 million to the current 63.0 million. The number of caregivers for adults increased from 39.8 million in 2015 to 59 million in 2025.
