25.6% Of Veterans With PTSD Quit Therapy Before Resolving Trauma
About one-quarter (25.6%) of veterans and service members in treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) dropped out of treatment before finishing the recommended course of treatment for PTSD therapies, according to a recent analysis. For specific PTSD treatments, dropout rates ranged from 5.5% for intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) that included prolonged exposure therapy to 40.1% for outpatient weekly cognitive processing therapy. The dropout rate was 46.45% for PTSD therapy combined with comorbid substance use, compared with PTSD-only (26.3%), or PTSD combined with comorbid depression (23.2%).
