30-Day Hospital Readmission Rates 27% Higher Among People With I/DD Than For The General Population
About 17.1% of hospitalized individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) were readmitted within 30 days after discharge, according to a recent study. The readmission rate for individuals with I/DD in 2016 data that the study used was about 27% higher than the 14% average for the general adult population in 2018 data that the study referenced.
“Improving nurse staffing levels is a system-based solution that can potentially improve outcomes for individuals with I/DD, who often require intensive nursing care,” the researchers stated.
