30% Of Public School Districts Mandate Mental Health Screening, But Barriers Exist 

About 30.5% of public school districts mandate that schools screen students for mental health problems, according to a national survey of 1,019 school principals. When students screen positive for anxiety or depression, 79.3% of schools notify the student’s parents, and 72.3% offer in-person treatment. Another 53.0% refer the student to a community mental health professional.;;
