39% Of Adults With Chronic Pain Have Depression, Anxiety, Or Both
Among adults with chronic pain, clinical symptoms of depression were present in 39.3%, and clinical symptoms of anxiety were present in 40.2%. In an analysis of existing studies, the prevalence of depression and anxiety differed by pain condition. The highest prevalence was found among samples of people with fibromyalgia (54% with depression, and 55.5% with anxiety). The lowest prevalence was found among samples of people with arthritis conditions (29.1% with depression, and 17.5% with anxiety).
