About 4.3% of adults, experienced suicidal ideation between 2015 and 2019 (representing 9.7 million U.S. adults in 2015, and 12.2 million U.S. adults in 2019), and within this group, 13% reported a suicide attempt. Suicidal ideation is defined as thoughts or ideas about wanting to end one’s life, which can range from fleeting thoughts to detailed planning.
