43% Of CHIPRA Enrollment Bonuses To 12 States Unallowable

About 43% of Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA) bonus payments to 12 states over fiscal years 2009 through 2013 were unallowable because the enrollment data was incorrect. The bonuses totaled more than $645 million; the unallowable payments totaled more than $277 million. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has taken significant action to recover these overpayments.
