44% Of ACOs Include At Least One Behavioral Health Facility

On average, 44% of Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) accountable care organizations (ACOs) operating from 2014 to 2022 included at least one inpatient or outpatient behavioral health facility. Compared to ACOs with no behavioral health facilities, the ACOs that included one or more behavioral health facilities were slightly more likely to assume downside risk, and twice as many included more safety-net provider organizations.
