45% Of People With First-Episode Schizophrenia Relapse Within 10 Years, Even When Treated With LAI Antipsychotics
In the first 10 years after being diagnosed with schizophrenia, about 45% of people, even those continuously treated with a long-acting injectable antipsychotic, will experience a relapse. In a longitudinal 10-year study of 305 people with first-episode psychosis who were treated with an LAI antipsychotic, the likelihood of relapse was the highest in the first year after diagnosis and declined over time.
The relapse risk in year five was 18% of the relapse risk in the first year. The risk of relapse during years six to 10 was just 12% of the year-one risk.
