5% Of Consumers Screened In ED Found To Experience Housing Insecurity
In 5% of emergency department visits, health care consumers screened positive for housing insecurity. These individuals were more likely to present with a chief concern of suicide, to be uninsured, and to have multiple visits during the study period. Of visits where individuals screened positive for housing insecurity, the median age was 46 years, and 829 (70%) were among males. Visits with those who screened positive were more likely to end with a transfer to psychiatric care, at 17% (198) for those who screened positive, compared to 2% (463) for those who screened negative.
