50% Of States Are Expanding Coverage Or Reducing Barriers For Medicaid, CHIP-Covered Children
Half of all U.S. states have either implemented or are planning to implement policies to expand coverage of Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Plan (CHIP), reduce enrollment barriers for Medicaid and CHIP enrollment, or both. "Coverage expansions" include increasing child eligibility and/or expanding coverage for immigrant children. "Enrollment barrier reductions" include the pursuit of approval of waivers to adopt multi-year continuous eligibility for children, eliminating or suspending premiums for children’s coverage, and/or transitioning to a CHIP-funded Medicaid expansion program.
