56% Of Children Receive Follow-Up Care For Mental Health Crises
Only 55.8% of Medicaid-enrolled children ages 6 to 17 received any outpatient follow-up care in the 30 days after discharge from a mental health emergency department (ED) visit. The remaining 44% did not receive timely outpatient follow-up care. A total of 31.2% of children had mental health follow-up within seven days of a mental health ED discharge.
Children without prior mental health outpatient care were at the highest risk for poor access to follow-up care. Those with at least 14 past-year mental health visits had 9.53 odds of accessing follow-up . . .
