58% Of BCBAs Considering Exiting The Profession

While demand for applied behavior analysis services is growing alongside earlier and more frequent autism diagnoses, workforce challenges—including staffing shortages and high turnover—are constraining the availability of services and of family supports. A survey of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) who provide applied behavior analysis (ABA), a common treatment for autism, revealed 58% are considering exiting the profession. Most survey respondents (89%) reported experiencing work-related stress, and 26% said their work was “very stressful” or that they experience “unmanageable stress.” One-third reported operating under extreme stress for two or more years.
