60% Of Health Services Workforce Is Age 50 & Older
About 60% of the health services workforce in the United States is over age 50, according to a recent report issued by AARP, the highest concentration across other major industry sectors. Nationwide, workers age 50 and older account for over one-third of workers, at 57 million people, compared to 111 million between ages 16 and 49. Although adults age 50 and older represent about one-third of workers, they held 46% of all jobs in 2024.
