Judge Approves New Jersey Child Welfare Reform Plan To Exit Federal Oversight
On November 4, 2015, the New Jersey Department of Children and Families announced that its new plan to exit federal oversight of the child welfare system had been approved by the court. The state had been subject to federal oversight under a 2006 agreement to the class action lawsuit Charlie & Nadine H. v New Jersey Department Of Children & Families. After the monitor determines that DCF has sustained at least 12 continuous months of compliance with the Sustainability and Exit Plan (Exit Plan), DCF will be permitted to seek to exit federal monitoring.
