In 2022, about 86% of U.S. employees in the private sector had access to employer-sponsored health insurance, according to the Insurance Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS-IC). Among small firms (those with fewer than 50 employees), the share of employees working where health insurance was offered was much lower (52.6%) than the national average for firms of all sizes (86%).
