In 2021, 9.6% of outpatient visits in the United States took place via telehealth, according to estimates based on responses to the 2021 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS). The percentage of telehealth visits for mental health treatment was higher than for other types of care. About 43.2% of visits to psychiatrists were via telehealth compared to 4.5% of visits to other types of physicians.
