Abnormal Glucose & Triglycerides Linked To Higher Long-Term Risk For Psychiatric Conditions

Individuals with high levels of blood glucose and triglycerides tend to have a higher long-term risk for psychiatric conditions compared to those who have normal levels of both, according to a recent study of data from Sweden. These psychiatric conditions include depression, anxiety, or stress-related disorders, including acute stress reaction and posttraumatic stress disorder. Blood glucose levels higher than about 6 mmol/L were associated with a 30% increased risk. Triglyceride levels greater than about 1.7 mmol/L were linked to a 15% increased risk.
