About 60% of non-fatal opioid overdoses among commercially insured youth in the United States, ages 11 to 17, from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2017, were among females. During this period, the IBM MarketScan Commercial Database had data for 3,042 non-fatal overdoses among youth in the 11 to 17 age group. The incidence rate among females ages 11 to 16 was 0.009 per 100 person years, and 0.005 per 100 person years for males.
