About Half Of Adults With ACA Marketplace Coverage Are Small Business Owners Or Self-Employed
Challenging perceptions that people who purchase health insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplaces are individuals or families acting on their own, a recent report by KFF found that an estimated 48% of the adults under age 65 who are enrolled in individual market (direct purchase) coverage are either employed by a small business (fewer than 25 workers), entrepreneurs who are self-employed, or the owners of small busineses. That compares to the 16% of all adults under age 65 who are either self-employed or employed by small businesses.
