About Half Of LGBTQ Young People In The U.S. Wanted, But Did Not Receive Mental Health Services

About half of young people ages 13 to 24 who self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ) and who responded to a national survey conducted by The Trevor Project said they wanted, but did not receive, mental health care. Across the states, the share of those who wanted, but did not receive, treatment ranged from 31% in Vermont to 66% in Arkansas.

Regionally, large differences existed in the reported rates of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, community acceptance, suicidal thoughts and attempts, affirming home environments, depression levels, and physical harm based on sexual orientation . . .
