Access To California Developmental Disability Services Unequal Due To Geographic & Ethnic Disparities
According to a report released in April, 2023 from a review conducted by the California Little Hoover Commission (LHC), a non-partisan citizen’s commission to improve state government, it was concluded that the state’s developmental disability system failed to provide equal access to publicly funded services for people with intellectual/developmental disability (I/DD) due to geographic location and/or ethnicity. A key problem is that each of the state’s 21 regional centers that coordinate services has discretion to establish their own processes to assess individuals for services, determine services offered, and the conditions needed for eligibility . . .
