Alabama DHR Seeking More Foster Homes For Elderly, Disabled Adults At-Risk Of Abuse Or Neglect
The Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) is seeking to expand its adult foster home capacity for vulnerable adults at risk for mistreatment. Adult foster care enables at-risk elderly and disabled adults to stay in community homes rather than institutional settings when relocation is necessary to keep them safe. The state currently has 20 adult foster homes. Following the announcement of ARPS funds in April 2021, DHR began recruiting to have at least one adult foster home in each of the state’s 67 counties.
