Almost 10% Of U.S. Adults Report Having Had Cancer

From 2024 to 2025, 9.7% of adults surveyed reported ever being diagnosed with cancer, according to a recent analysis. This is an increase from 7% in 2008 to 2009 and 7.3% in 2016 to 2017.

The findings are based on the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index, which started in 2008. The most recent results are based on responses from 16,946 U.S. adults surveyed online during the first three quarters of 2025, and from another 23,969 adults surveyed in 2024 as part of the Gallup Panel.
