Opioid-Related Hospitalizations Among 65+ Population Increased 34% Over Five Years

Between 2010 and 2015 the rate of opioid-related hospitalizations among older adults aged 65 and older increased by 34.3%, from 199.3 per 100,000 in 2010, to 267.6 per 100,000 population in 2015. For this same time period, the rate of opioid-related emergency department visits among older adults increased by 74.2%, from 44.7 per 100,000 population in 2010, to 77.9 per 100,000 population in 2015.
