Arizona DCS Implements New Kinship Support & Navigation Services
On March 21, 2024, the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) implemented new kinship support services (KSS) and navigation services, similar to the benefits and supports provided to licensed foster parents. There are about 4,000 kinship caregivers in the state who care for 4,297 children. KSS agencies will serve as a resource, offering guidance, advocacy, and support to kinship caregivers throughout their time with DCS.
The KSS include:
An expedited path to foster care licensing
Home assessments
Creation of a family support plan
Initial and ongoing trainings
Assistance with enrolling a child in school and other educational needs . . .
