Autism Diagnoses Among Females Increase
Between 2020 and 2024, the annual rate of new autism diagnoses at a large U.S. health care system increased by 7.1% per year. The increase was driven by diagnoses among females, which increased by 19.0% per year during this period. Autism diagnoses among males did not increase.
The trends varied by age and sex.
Among children, annual autism diagnoses declined by 2.0% per year among males from 2016 to 2024, while increasing by 17.4% per year among females in the post-2020 period.
