Berks County, Pennsylvania Implements Performance-Based Funding For Senior Centers

The Berks County, Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging is implementing a new performance-based approach to funding senior centers. The methodology is focused on encouraging the contracted senior centers to improve services, meet minimum standards, offer innovative programming, and become more self-sustaining while attracting and meeting the needs of diverse age groups and ethnicities. Under this new method, each center must offer congregate meal service, meet programming/socialization standards, and offer a minimum number of exercise classes to consumers at no cost. The county intends to provide incentive and bonus funding to provider organizations with high performance.
