Between January 2020 & February 2021, 6% Of Medicare Beneficiaries Had COVID-19 & Over 1 Million Were Hospitalized For COVID-19
About 6% of Medicare beneficiaries, more than 3.8 million people, were diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from January 1, 2020 through February 20, 2021. Of those beneficiaries diagnosed with COVID-19, 26%, about 1 million people, were hospitalized for COVID-19. When controlled for other characteristics such as age and disability, dual eligible beneficiaries were always more likely to contract COVID-19. As of early 2021, around 63.1 million Americans were enrolled in Medicare: 57% in Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) and 43% in Medicare Advantage (MA) plans.
