Bipartisan Budget Act Repealed Medicare Caps On Physical, Speech, & Occupational Therapy

The Bipartisan Budget Act signed into law on February 9, 2018, included a provision to repeal the annual caps limiting how much Medicare pays for physical, occupational, or speech therapy per beneficiary per year. The cap has been replaced with a targeted medical review if therapy expenses exceed $3,000 per year for a given beneficiary. The provision applies to traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans. The legislation specified that therapy services furnished after December 31, 2017, will not be subject to any limit on service expenses.
