Blood Sugar Stability Is Associated With A Lower Risk Of Alzheimer’s Or Dementia For Older Adults With Diabetes
Blood sugar stability, measured by HbA1c time in range (TIR), is associated with a lower risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) in older adults with diabetes. According to the recent study of more than 374,000 veterans with diabetes, lower HbA1c TIR (0 to less than 20) was associated with an increased risk for incident ADRD compared to those with high HbA1c TIR (80 or above). The direction of out-of-range HbA1c levels was also associated with incident ADRD.
