Blood Test Identifies 80% Of People With Brain Amyloid Plaques Of Alzheimer’s Disease
A blood test is able to identify most people with amyloid plaques in the brain associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Two separate studies with a total of 686 participants compared the blood test results to the results of a positron emission tomography (PET) scan for brain amyloidosis. All individuals included in the two studies were experiencing early signs of cognitive impairment or dementia at the time of their evaluation. The blood test identified 81% of those whose PET scans revealed amyloid plaques in the brain.
