By The End Of 2025, The Physician Assistant Workforce Was Over 201,000, Up 5.9% From 2024
The number of board-certified physician assistants (PAs) in the United States reached 201,038 by the end of 2025, according to a recent report. This is a 5.9% increase from 2024 and a 26.9% increase from 2021.
About 2.4% of PAs in 2025 specialized in psychiatry, up from 2.0% in 2021. Another 0.5% in 2025 specialized in addiction medicine, which was about the same percentage as in 2021.
