California To Close Sonoma & Costa Mesa Developmental Centers, Downsize Porterville Center

The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is preparing to close the Sonoma Developmental Center and the Fairview Developmental Center in Costa Mesa, as well as closing the General Treatment Area (GTA) at the Porterville Developmental Center. In plans submitted to the legislature on October 1, 2015, DDS said it plans to close the Sonoma Developmental Center by the end of 2018. DDS is still developing its closure plans for the Fairview Developmental Center.
