California Corrections Committee Approves New Minimum Standards For Incarcerated Youth

On February 8, 2018, the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) approved revised minimum standards guiding the operation of county detention facilities. The recommendations are intended to improve safety for youth and facility staff by addressing the impacts of childhood trauma on behavior and reactions.

The BSCC recommendation proposes updates Titles 15 and 24 of the California Code of Regulations. Agency staff and workgroups spent 18 months gathering input from experts and, for the first time, system-involved young people.
