California DDS To Improve Conservatorships

On August 16, 2022, the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) announced plans to make system improvements for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) where DDS is the court-appointed conservator. The work laid out by DDS is intended to improve the DDS conservatorship process. DDS has amended its regional center contracts to include increased reporting requirements for DDS conservatees and a person-centered, comprehensive assessment for each individual conserved by DDS. DDS will issue a Directive to regional centers detailing the new enhanced oversight requirements.
