California Enacts Legislation To House Homeless Consumers With Psychosis
On September 14, 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 1338 to create the Community Assistance, Recovery & Empowerment (CARE) Court program to provide housing and treatment for individuals with schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless. The program is intended to be a voluntary alternative to incarceration, psychiatric hospitalization, or court-ordered conservatorship. The first county CARE Courts are anticipated to launch in October 2023.
Services Available Through CARE Court:
Eligible individuals would be able to participate in a 12-month CARE plan that prioritizes the participants for referrals . . .
