Federal Medicaid Funding Terminated For Sonoma Developmental Center, Facility Plans To Close In 2018

In mid-May 2016, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) terminated Medicaid certification and funding for seven of the 11 units at the Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC) intermediate care facility. The termination is effective July 1, 2016. Under the terms of an earlier agreement with CMS about resident safety at SDC, if SDC does not meet the conditions of participation, the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) cannot appeal the termination. 

As of June 10, SDC housed 348 people with profound developmental disabilities, 195 of whom are residents of the center’s intermediate care units. In 2013 . . .
