California Expands Access To School-Based Medicaid Reimbursement For Student Health Services

The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is implementing a statewide effort to expand Medicaid reimbursement for school-based student health services, including outpatient behavioral health care. This effort is part of the state’s Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI). Local education agencies (LEAs) will be able to bill for services provided to Medicaid-eligible students under the age of 26 at a school site, including on-campus, off-campus, and mobile clinic locations.
