California Extends Foster Care During COVID-19: Young Adults Turning 21 Remain Eligible
The state of California is allowing young adults in extended foster care to remain eligible for services if they turn 21 during the state’s COVID-19 emergency. The extended eligibility will run from April 18, 2020, through June 30, 2020. Approximately 200 young adults age out of California’s foster care system every month. Many are at risk of homelessness and food insecurity. The state allocated $1.85 million to cover the additional cost of foster care payments. By allowing young adults in extended foster care, the state seeks to help them to maintain their living arrangements and food . . .
