California Governor’s Executive Order Removes Homeless Camps On State Property
On July 25, 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order (N-1-24) directing state agencies to urgently address homeless encampments on state property. The state has an estimated 180,000 people who experienced homelessness during 2023, which includes 123,000 people who experienced unsheltered homelessness and were living in tents, trailers, and vehicles. The state had no estimate for the number of unsheltered homeless camping on state property.
