California Planned Parenthood Sues Promesa Behavioral Health For Interfering With Reproductive Medical Care Of Women In Foster Care
On February 23, 2016, California Planned Parenthood and three 18-year old women who were residents of a foster home operated by Promesa Behavioral Health sued the organization for denying female youth in foster care access to medically necessary reproductive and sexual health care. The young women, and a former Promesa employee, allege that the organization confiscated contraceptives, prohibited youth from receiving reproductive health care, forced youth to allow group home staff into the exam rooms at their ob-gyn appointments, and required youth to sign an agreement that they would not engage in sexual activity.
