California To Allow Prison & Jail Inmates To Enroll In Medicaid Up To 90-Days Before Release
Under an initiative to start during 2023, select inmates eligible for Medi-Cal benefits in California’s Medicaid program will be permitted to enroll 90-days prior to their release from California county jails, state prisons, and youth correctional facilities. During this 90-day pre-release period, the eligible inmates will be able to receive some Medicaid-benefits. The goal is to ensure that individuals receiving behavioral health services while incarcerated can seamlessly continue treatment upon release.
